“Jo’s extraordinary memoir is raw, passionate, authentic, and incredibly generous, just like Jo herself. With an unyielding commitment to encouraging women aged 45 – 49 to participate in the Australian breast screening program, she courageously details each step of her own personal breast cancer journey.

With no details spared, her account gives itself up as a guide to support and inform others along an otherwise terrifying path, and with wings of insight and humour, she wraps herself around the shoulders of those facing the same. Thank you, Jo, for sharing your story. It takes guts and fortitude to allow others into such an intimate space and as a result, is incredibly powerful.”

— Dr Sarah Paton, Breast Physician

This book was written on Whadjuk Boodja, specifically on the banks of Derbal Yarrigan – home of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation – the traditional custodians of this land on which I have lived, explored, played and worked, for over 50 years. I acknowledge the expertise and insight that Noongar people have for country, and hope that a future Australia begins to champion our first nations peoples. I also acknowledge that when I speak of resilience in my memoir, there is no greater example than the world’s oldest living culture.

I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging across Noongar country and all traditional countries across Australia.
